    Description

FEATURED:  A tremendous example of Modern American Studio Art Glass, this huge, stunning bowl by artist MICHAEL MIKULA is a fascinating combination of sleek elegant blown glass combined with Architectonic Molds to form a fascinating piece of glass sculpture that makes Modern Glass so exciting to seek and collect.  The artist, trained at the renown Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, Ohio under his mentor BRENT KEE YOUNG, and continuing his training in Young's Cleveland studio with both Young and MARK SUDDRETH, and going on to study at Pilchuck, Penland, and Fundacio Centre Del Vidre, has been creating interesting glass for over 30 years.  His Studio, Midtown Glassworks, is located in Cleveland's  famous Glass Corridor, where he continues to create show-stopping vessels and stunning architectural sculptures in glass.  This piece was created by blowing glass, then while hot, the base was formed by using hand-carved architectural graphite molds (all carved by the artist), in various combinations, making a timeless bowl with a very exotic base. Each creation is unique, as the combination of molds are never used in the same way, each chosen by the artist to accent the piece he has in mind.   Made in 1998, signed & dated on the base by the artist, this very large plum-colored bowl is a show-stopper, with its rich color and that fascinating square pedestal base, gorgeous displayed on any surface, and useful as well should you desire to float beautiful flowers in it, or serve a fabulous tasty food specialty in it.  A very collectible and unusual piece of original glass sculpture, in bowl form,  and one you will surely love adding to your glass collection and enjoy for decades to come.
MEASURES:  13 inches in diameter, 7 inches tall and 4 inches square across the base.  Signed, "M.J. Mikula, '98" on the base, and in gorgeous mint condition, this striking, elegant piece of Modern Studio Art glass is a great piece of sleek sculpture and also a valued piece to have in any Modern Art or Art Glass collection.
