Description
We have here a very nice Consolidated Lamp and Glass Co. pigeon blood ruffled bowl sitting in a Wm Rogers Mfg Co quadruple plate holder. This particular line of glass by the company was created in the late 1800s and produced in both shiny and satin finishes. This color is somewhat lighter than ruby red, almost an orange-ish red hue. Also, produced in numerous shapes, many were used as serving pieces on the table. One popular tradition of the Victorian era was the gift of brides bowls to a newlywed couple buy a relative. Often these bowls sat out at the wedding to hold monetary gifts, afterwords, would set near the entry for visitors to leave calling cards. The silver plate frame was produced by a renowned company in Hartford, Connecticut, William Rogers manufacturing firm. This holder has the number 1084 which would most likely indicate the catalogue number of this particular pattern. The bowl itself measures 10 1/2” across at the widest, 4” tall at the highest. The base measures 3 3/4” outer diameter. The holder stands just under 10 1/2” tall to top of handle, 10 3/4” across the widest area of the handle. The base where the bowl sits spans 6 1/8” across. The bowl fits nicely in the holder but I do believe it was not original to this holder. I have provided a side view picture showing the bowl setting in the holder. It’s not a bad fit, just mentioned for accuracy in description. The bowl itself is in factory original condition with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. Very little if any scratching on the inside from use. A polished pontil visible on the bottom. The frame is in very good condition, however I believe on one side the handles possibly could have been resoldered to the base at some point in time. I am not for certain, but have provided a picture of this area. Again, not a bad repair if in fact repaired, but mentioning for accuracy. I have not polished the frame, I will leave this choice up to the new owner. I will ship this set at a fixed price using FedEx ground/home delivery because of the size of the box required to ensure safe delivery. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description.
Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
Thank you.
